When it comes to choosing the right patio doors, you will want to find the right product for your property. With the huge variety of styles and materials on the market there are a lot of options for you to consider. The first thing you need to think about is which look you want to aim for, you may be looking for something simple and affordable, or something a lot more grand in scope.
Patio doors can be prefabricated or custom made to suit your needs. The type of door you choose can really make a difference to your room, depending on which way they open, the light they let in, their size and their colour. They can really become a focal point of a room. Popular options include French doors, Centre swing doors, sliding doors and entry system doors Most French doors and sliding doors tend to be prefabricated while entry system doors and centre swing doors are usually customized. (Although you can get some customized French doors)
Sliding doors are a popular option, often because of their cheap price. They do look good once bought but they tend to wear a lot worse than other doors. As they are frequently slid open and closed, they suffer wear quite quickly and this causes them to become less airtight. This can lead to leaking, as well as problems closing, opening and locking. However if you take exceptionally good care of them they do make a good looking door and let a lot of light in to the room. Sliding doors are often ideally suited to conservatories, where they are not in direct contact with the outside world.
French doors are another affordable door and are a lot more practical. They are built to weather repeated use and are constructed a lot more like traditional doors to remain airtight and leak-free. They are primarily made of glass so they let a lot of light through, ideal for a patio that receives a lot of natural light. You can get a lot of classical designs which can add a touch of sophistication to your home.
Centre swing doors are a lot less practical option and are only really suitable for areas with a lot of space. They are typically used for closets and bedrooms and usually made of either; wood, plastic or fibreglass.
You need to consider the practicality, construction and affordability of your patio doors, especially in relation to your existing space. The door you want may look elegant but might not be practical given space limitations. French doors are the most common but those with a higher budget often choose to go for the entry system doors.
